RCB managed a strong first innings total of 196, but their talisman struggled, hitting 31 off 30 balls. When Kohli hit CSK pacer Matheesha Pathirana for a six and a four immediately after being struck in the helmet by a bouncer from the Sri Lankan team, it was the lone memorable moment of his knock.
Pathirana’s opening ball in the eleventh over was a short, crisp delivery that hit Kohli on the helmet. As required, Kohli even had to be evaluated for a concussion as a result of the hit. Kohli, on the other hand, looked clearly energized and responded spectacularly to the early shot.
Although Pathirana’s subsequent delivery was likewise pitched short, Kohli was prepared this time and moved into position to pull it for a six over fine leg. Kohli then perfectly timed his shot, chipping it over mid-wicket as it sped off for a boundary. See Virat Kohli’s incredible reaction after being struck on the helmet.
Before the over began, Kohli was struggling at 16 runs off 22 balls; the boundaries enabled him surpass a strike rate of 100. He was removed after just two overs, which was unfortunate for him. Kohli picked out the CSK fielder at deep mid-wicket after attempting to slug Noor Ahmad for a maximum. To end the curse of not winning at CSK’s Chepauk Stadium since 2008, RCB posted a respectable score in spite of Kohli’s difficulties.
RCB reached 196/7 in 20 overs thanks to a half-century (51 off 32 balls) from captain Rajat Patidar. To help RCB achieve a reasonable score, Tim David (22 off 8), Jitesh Sharma (12 off 6), Phil Salt (32 off 16), and Devdutt Padikkal (27 off 14) all made useful cameos.
